A Rational Advocate
"The most formidable weapon against errors of any kind is reason"

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

A Rational Advocate takes a magazine type format to provide content that is based on rationality and  consideration of the inherent characteristics of human beings.  The following analysis of rationality derived for this publication follows.

A reason is the basis for making a judgment.  Therefore, the information from which the reason is derived is fundamental to the derivation of the judgment.  We utilize our five senses (seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and feeling) to gain this information.  Information gathered in the present is combined with that obtained, and processed, over past periods of time and is reprocessed to fit the present need.  This process can be related to a computer that takes information entered into it through the keyboard, mouse, CD or other input device and then stores it temporarily, or over time, in its memory to process as directed by the operating system and/or associated programs.

We all have heard of the saying “garbage in, garbage out” and it is reasonable to assume that it is generally agreed that this is a valid rationale.  It also stands to reason that for a person's judgment to have substantive value, the basis for that judgment (i.e., the information received and processed over time) must have validity (not be garbage).  Being honest to our respective selves, we certainly all know that there must have been times during our lives where information received through our senses may have been less than factual, or possibly erroneously perceived.  With this information then being stored in our memory and subsequently processed and reprocessed along with other subsequent information, whether credible or not, some of our judgments must have been affected.

If we do recognize this premise as factual, it is reasonable to then make the vital judgment that before new judgments can be made a reevaluation of past judgments should be accomplished.   To have validity, reason based on factual information must be utilized as the basis for making these reevaluations of past judgments, as well as, for all new judgments.  This website’s purpose is to advance this rationale.
