KILLING OSAMA & AL
ZAQARWI WILL NOT END TERRORISM
There are those in the political arena and in the
media who proclaim that the capture or killing of Osama Bin Laden and Abu Musab
Al Zaqarwi would end Islamic terrorism. They state that the U.S. should
have gone after Bin Laden and Al Qaeda and not into Iraq. Rational
analysis defies this belief. It stands to reason that one must go to
the cause of what drives this Islamic terrorism and then attempt to change that
cause. To understand what is the causal factor one must look to where the
fomentation of it occurred and from whence it was derived.
This terrorism is driven by the warped utilization
of the tenets of the Koran by a religious sect called the Wahabies based in
Saudi Arabia and supported by elements of the Royal Family, that number in the
hundreds, to maintain their power. The main thrust of this ideology is the
belief that those who do not believe in the tenets of the Koran must either be
converted or eliminated. Killing or capturing Bin Laden and Al Zaqarwi would be
desirable but would not treat the underlying cause. The question arises then,
what would?
There should also be no doubt that Islamo-Fascist
rulers in the mid-east do nothing to counter this ideology because with it they
maintain their entrenchment. Under these rulers and this ideology the
people are essentially still living in the seventh century. The 22 member
countries of the Arab league have a total population of 300 millions, a land
mass larger than the U.S. but a GDP less than half of that of California. To
treat the underlying cause it should be obvious that they must begin to be
brought into the 21st century. The only apparent way this is going to
happen is to introduce democracy into the region so that these people will be
able to see the economic opportunities that it can bring within their own
region. To see that employment as a productive task will replace the
unemployment that breeds terrorists.
This is exactly what is being attempted in Iraq and
is already showing economic success. Iraq currency has held its value this last
year better than our dollar. Their stock market is soaring. There is
great demand for goods such as state of the art electronic products and main
stream citizens are optimistic about their future. The decision to make a regime
change in Iraq allows democracy to gain a foothold for the betterment of all in
the region and ourselves. Now, if only the naysayers would get out of the
way and allow our troops to finish the job.
